The facts

Hugh learned about his cancer while in Ireland in early July and , as of 12/12/25, has had 7 chemotherapy sessions and a major operation to remove the 22 cancerous lymph nodes and the head of his pancreas. He will have 5 more sessions bringing him to his 56th birthday in late February,2026.

The friends

Since his school days in CBC Monkstown, Hugh has kept in touch with many near and dear friends who have initiated this campaign. These include Peter Moloney, John Donnelly, Grainne O Carroll, Michael Colbert and you can still register your participation here directly with Hugh on Whatsapp

The figures

Fortunately, most of the cancer treatments are free for Hugh in Russia, where he has lived since 2007. What is not free is the myriad of medicines he has had to consume before and after his operation. Additional treatments such as ozone therapy and blood coagulation and infrared saunas are also paid services. The key to overcoming this cancer and survival is immunotherapy which can cost as much as E9000 in Ireland and about E6000 in mainland Europe. Hugh and his medical team have sourced this treatment at E3000 for 4 treatments and a minimum of 12 have been recommended to boost the immune system and give him a chance.

Personal Message of Support and Hope from Hugh

Since learning I have cancer, it has amazed me how many I know who have also had to deal with and who still are dealing with this illness. May we all have the courage and honesty to continue on this journey with optimism and faith in our medical team . May we continue to give thanks for all we have including our family, friends and those who reach out to connect with us as we navigate the ups and downs this challenge offers us. May we learn from this illness to survive and thrive well into the future.

Infrared sauna – August 2025

Hugh has been advised to make the most of some additional services and medicines and treatments ranging from this to blood coagulation, which helps the chemicals work their magic better. There have also been recommendations to use powdered Shitake mushooms in a tea as well as dandelion root extract in tea and a lot more on top of these.

Christmas jumpers, smiles & ballooons.
